HARC and its partners are dedicated to research on locally produced animal feeds from locally sourced feedstocks. Currently Hawaii imports much of its animal feed for dairy production, chickens, pigs, goats, aquaculture and more. The high cost of shipping these feeds to the islands adds challenges to production and added financial burden on local producers. HARC believes that many potential feedstocks can be used to create nutritious animal feeds locally, which can help more farmers stay in business.
