Improved Green Ti Plant
A special virus elimination treatment of common green ti, a canoe plant introduced by the early settlers of Hawaii in prehistory, was used by a University of Hawaii researcher. The resulting improved plants are free of at least 5 viruses. Compared to untreated plants, some of which have leaves barely 19” long, spotted, and discolored, the improved plants have beautiful 30” leaves with no spots or discoloration, and thick, sturdy stems. People would be able to use the leaves for lau lau, lei, flower arrangements, long hula skirts and the plants in landscaping and garden designs.
