Johanie is dedicated to supporting food security and land stewardship by helping land managers increase their system's resilience through implementing sustainable practices. She is working on making scientific data available that informs and supports the island's land stewardship, education, food sovereignty, and circular economy. Nowadays, she serves as an research agronomist and soil researcher working on soil health and climate-smart research and conservation practices implementation projects in collaboration with a network of farmers, ranchers, and foresters across Hawai'i. In addition, Johanie is a member of the Hawaii Natural and Working Lands Interagency team, where she works on generating producer and practitioner-driven data resources that support climate-smart and C sequestration policy to support incentives for land stewardship. As an educator, Johanie leads the Climate Smart Training School and supports the K-12 agricultural education program "Seeds 4 Tomorrow".
