1- Soil and water conservation is important  because without  the two you would not have the building blocks to grow anything. Soil is important because soil gives the plant the nutrients it needs in order to grow. Water is important because it provides moisture to the plant without it drying out and essentially dying.
2- Framers use cover crops in order to keep soil from what is called soil runoff were soil is washed away and flushed into the ocean which kills off the reefs and pollutes the sea. They also use cover crops to keep the soil compact and for it to be able to keep the soil to grow other crops. The cover crops help Hawaiis Ahapua`a because it distinctively shows where each land division is, without cover crops the land will be washed away and into the sea.
