
The Climate-Smart Training School aims to capacitate professionals and practitioners in the disciplines of equitable soil sciences, environmental sciences, and agriculture to further understand agricultural systems from a technical and place-based perspective.

During Summer 2023, the first cohort of 16 University of Hawaiʻi undergraduate students, graduate students, agriculture and environmental science professionals and community leaders completed the program. The training program, led by Dr. Johanie Rivera-Zayas in collaboration with Hawaiʻi Soil Health Research Soil Health Research Hui is an initial effort through the project’s Producer Engagement Team which include: Hawaiʻi Cattlemen’s Council, O‘ahu Resource Conservation and Development Council, Hawaiʻi Farmers Union United, The Kohala Center, Forest Solutions Inc., Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources, CTAHR Cooperative Extension, and O‘ahu Agriculture and Conservation Association.
